Petals

"Merely by pursuing what you love you may inadvertently end up helping us plenty. “There is no love which does not become help,” taught the theologian Paul Tillich. Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascination, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart. The rest of it will take care of itself." —Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

With all that is going on in America this past week, it has been difficult for me to concentrate on my art because it seems like there are so many other things I "should" be doing. But being creative brings me joy. So I will keep on, and hope that, in addition to however else I can help, doing what I love will somehow breed more love in this world, and vigilantly express gratitude for having the good fortune to do it.

I recently listened to Big Magic and it resonated with me and lifted me up. Elizabeth Gilbert's voice is enchanting, so get it as an audiobook if you have the opportunity. I recommend drawing or painting while you listen to it, if that is your craft. Although, beware: you may have to keep pausing because you will want to record for future reference the many gems you will find.

This is one of the drawings I created with my coveted Koi watercolor brush pens while I soaked up the magic:

And these are three of the four art prints in the series I created from that drawing:

This series is fun and playful, and has me excited about continuing to experiment with shape and color in this vein. I submitted this series to the Minted x West Elm challenge and if you are so inclined, I would love your vote:

Detroit Gets Married Fall 2016

I am so honored to have been a part of the second Detroit Gets Married event which took place at the Rusas Printing Building in Detroit on October 21, 2016. Organized by Kyle Trombley of Kyle Ann Design, Detroit Gets Married is an alternative wedding event — instead of vendors in booths, it's a mock wedding reception. I designed the event poster and invitation suite, as well as day-of signage and paper goods.

I have 21 new products that launched this year for my Minted holiday collection, including photo cards, ornament cards, corporate cards, party invitations, and wrapping paper. AND my "Doves" holiday photo card placed 36th out of over 5.000 entries, which is such a huge honor!

Just My Type

Introducing Just My Type, one of the typographic designs in my collection of pre-designed wedding invitation suites. The first piece that I approached in the design process was the invitation, which came together quite naturally. The hexagon shape that was developed for the invitation ended up influencing the rest of the pieces and creating a pattern that is prominent on the save the date and thank you card. I love when a small detail grows and translates to other parts that make up the whole, resulting in a stronger connection among all of the pieces and a more cohesive overall design. This suite can easily be customized to include metallic foil stamping, and all of the black could be changed to one or two colors for a stunning effect. I also like the idea of keeping all of the black and using brightly colored envelopes to add a pop of color against the clean typography.

All the invitations in my collection are digitally printed on luxurious cotton paper (with the option to go pearlescent) with a plethora of contour flap envelope colors to choose from. For every suite there is an invitation, RSVP card (with the option to do an RSVP postcard without an envelope), details card, thank you card, save the date (with and without photo), and matching address stamp that can be used as the return address on the main envelope, and as the delivery address on the reply envelope. Foil stamping can be added to any suite. View the pricing guide with list of pieces available here. Purchase a sample of Just My Type at gennacowsert.etsy.com.

Evergreen

Introducing Evergreen, one of the softer suites in my newly launched collection of pre-designed wedding suites. This suite was originally designed to be a fall or winter invitation, but now that it's complete I think it really works for all seasons depending on the color palette. In this neutral color palette of light golden brown and gray, it has an earthy quality that I just love about it, especially with the combination of the kraft A7 envelope and the pale grey A2 envelope. And it could be taken from earthy to chic with the right colors, for instance plum and silver. I also had metallic foil in mind when I created the pine pattern and think that would be a beautiful addition. The pine pattern could certainly be changed to any color with matching envelopes and it would be lovely. Evergreen means to last, to endure — which to me was a fitting name for stationery that sets the tone for your special day, and marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter.

Mod

Introducing Mod — one of my favorites in my newly launched collection of pre-designed wedding suites. Mod relates to a series of art prints I have been developing over the past two years using a watercolor background masked out with geometric shapes. The first piece entitled "Apertures" was available for sale through west elm. Other pieces in the series are available through Minted here, here, and here. It's been a joy to work on the art prints, so I thought it would be fun to apply it to a wedding suite, and I am in love with the result. I think it would be beautiful to use gold (or rose gold!) foil stamping for the gold triangles. The gold foil with the watercolor texture would be a great combination. And who doesn't love gold foil these days?

Detroit Gets Married

I am so honored to have been a part of the first Detroit Gets Married event which took place at the Jam Handy in Detroit on March 19, 2016! Organized by Kyle Trombley of Kyle Ann Design, Detroit Gets Married is an alternative wedding event — instead of vendors in booths, it's a mock wedding reception! I designed the event poster and invitation suite, as well as day-of signage and paper goods. The event was a blast with great food, desserts, drinks, music, photo booth, and gorgeous florals and decor. The Jam Handy is a beautiful, unique venue (I would love to get married there!) and it was fun to see how all the vendors transformed the space. Also, the Bluewater Kings Band was phenomenal and I had a great time dancing to their set list.

Christa & Bryan's Mid-century Modern Wedding

I'm honored to share a custom mid-century modern save the date and wedding invitation I designed last year for the now Mr. and Mrs. Lark. They were such a pleasure to work with and it was a wonderful experience turning their vision into a suite that I am very proud of. This dreamy design was brought to life on savoy cotton paper with matte gold foil and dove gray envelopes. I also designed matching day-of pieces including table numbers, posters, place cards and plate cards for their gorgeous wedding at the Gem Theatre.

2015 Minted Holiday Collection

This has been such a great year for me for Minted. I really pushed myself because I love Minted and I want to make it an even bigger part of my business. This year I got a record-breaking (for me) 14 holiday picks, including corporate cards, photo cards, ornaments, New Year's cards, and an online invitation! And on top of that, I am so very pleased that my Warm Holiday Wishes card took 22nd place out of 4,661 entries! It is a huge honor to place in the top 50 in Minted's holiday card challenge as it is very competitive.

Also, Brittany Jepsen, creative visionary behind The House That Lars Built, was asked to be a guest judge and pick her favorite card for Minted's "Winter Wonderland Non-Photo Holiday Challenge" and she chose my Bursts and Swirls card! (see below)

And my Uh Oh card won the Holly Jolly Award for funniest card!

Bohemian Meets Geometric Styled Shoot

I'm so happy to share this styled shoot that I had the pleasure of taking part in. I was on the team with Kaylin from A Touch of Whimsy Events, Emily from Parsonage Events and Kate from Kate Saler Photography. I designed the invite, and all of the paper goods including the favors, menus, s'more bunting and signs. I was also there on the day of the shoot and we had a ton of fun!
